Non-Executive Recruitment

Research at LHCH

We are at the forefront of clinical research and our researchers are world leaders in their fields of expertise.  However, we are keen to do much more.

We have launched our new Research Strategy which was approved by the Board of Directors in July 2018. It is bold, challenging and focused upon:

  • The Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS).   Launched on 28th September 2018, this is a brand new strategic partnership in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Health Partners. LCCS will focus on translational research & innovation aimed at improving the cardiovascular health and outcomes of the population of the Liverpool City Region.  The centre is being led by Professor Gregory Lip, an internationally renowned clinical researcher with a major interest into atrial fibrillation (AF), a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate, and leads to a high risk of stroke and death. He is ranked as the world’s leading AF expert by Expertscape and has previously featured in the Thomson Reuters’ Science Watch list of ‘World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds’ as a highly cited researcher.
  • The development of non-medical clinical academics.  Staff who traditionally do not engage in research and innovation are being supported by a bespoke programme of development, with the objective of growing a new cadre of researchers for the future, focused on research and innovation that brings benefits to patients in the short to medium term.
  • Continuing to build our links with industry to further develop our research successes.  We currently have in excess of 50 clinical trials currently open at the Trust under 5 themes:
  1. Aortic Surgery
  2. Respiratory care
  3. Cardiology (includes interventional cardiology, device therapy and electrophysiology)
  4. Cardiac Surgery
  5. Lung Cancer and Thoracic Surgery

The number of publications in scientific and medical journals authored by our researchers continues to thrive, and our work is increasingly cited in clinical guidelines - the primary vehicle for how research can directly influence clinical care.
